What do I do if my toenail is nearly ripped off?

I accidently hit my big toe today and ripped most off my nail off. There is only the corner of the nail that is still attached. I have a constant throbbing pain now and don't know if to rip the nail off or not??What do I do if my toenail is nearly ripped off?
Get it removed by a doctor, soon u will have newWhat do I do if my toenail is nearly ripped off?
That happened to me recently but to one of my smaller toes. I just wrapped a band aid on the whole thing and waited until it stopped hurting. eventually the nail re-attached itself. I can't say if the same will happen to your big toe, but it might be less painful if you bandage it for a while. When it doesn't hurt so much, you can try cutting the part that came off. Then bandage it again until the nail has grown back. If you think the pain is really too much or if it starts looking like it's infected (pain, change in color, pus) then go see a doctor right away. Make sure to wash your toe %26amp; apply a disinfectant before bandaging.
I'd say either clip it off of rip the rest off if you can handle it. Same thing happened to me except it was a little toe not the big one, it grew back for me but idk if it's the same for the big toe.
i had the same problem, man. What i did was, use a scissor to cut off the broken part and keep the part thats still intact. what im worried about is, what would happen to the still intact piece of my nail when my new nail comes out :O

  • What should i do about a toenail that has partially fallen off?

yesterday i noticed that the nail on my pinky toe was kind of moving, so i left it alone. today i discovered that not only had the nail broken off but the nail on my other foot was doing the same exact thing. there is no sign of fungus and it was not subject to any type of injury. also the base of the nail is still there, just the tip has ripped off. i was wondering if it is possible that if the nail was too long for the toe it could have caught to something, like my sock, and ripped the tip of the nail off? also i'd like some advice on how to take care of it so i can allow the nail to grow again. thank you! What should i do about a toenail that has partially fallen off?
Eat lots of vitamins and it will grow more quickly. What should i do about a toenail that has partially fallen off?
It is very possible it caught on something and broke. Just allow it to grow out, then invest in a 25$ pedicure. It will make your toes sparkle, and make you feel good as well.
Go to a doctor and get checked to see if you have a condition that needs treatment.
Almost certainly it got caught on something and got ripped. It happens. The good news is toenails grow back. I had one ';smashed off'; with someone's heel in a martial arts fight, it took 8 weeks to grow back but it did, they are pretty tough things.

While it's not true that eating vitamins will make it grow quicker, it WILL grow slower if you don't eat properly and therefore get enough vitamins and nutrients.

Im starting to get an ingrown toenail help the pain is awful?

its on my left toe on the right corner it swelling and it starting to get a little red. the pain is awful. how can i get rid of it since it just started last night.Im starting to get an ingrown toenail help the pain is awful?
Soak your toe in warm water ( as hot as you can stand) -with Epsom salt or table salt in it. If possible, have someone cut the nail portion that is digging into your toe bed (just the corner) -before it becomes infected.Im starting to get an ingrown toenail help the pain is awful?
Soak your feet in very salty water. I like to add Epsom Salt. with a little nice smelling soap, you know ...feet. Very carefully trim your toenails as well as you can. Then put some disinfectant on the sore toe. use Hydrogen Peroxide or an antiseptic wash. Good luck.

Does anyone know how to treat toenail fungus with something other than prescription meds?

Ive tried Vicks vapor rub too greasy and you have to use it every day that rolls for the rest of your life. I need something that will get rid of it. Without having to go to doctor.Does anyone know how to treat toenail fungus with something other than prescription meds?
try Listerine it works! all you have to do is put it on the toenail twice a day and it does work. I read about it in the paper.Does anyone know how to treat toenail fungus with something other than prescription meds?
Haven't you heard of Tea Tree Oil? If not, pl. read up on it and try to get the same and use it. Locally.
Try using Vicks vaporub. I work for P%26amp;G and so many people call and say it works on toenail fungus, but if you call us we can not say to use it for that since we have not tested it in this manner.
my mom does nails for a living and she has this fungus liquid thing for your nails and u can get it at the beauty supply stores. it works wheneve she has cutomers that come in with fungus problems she gives them it!
tried to buy some ergomicon on a drug store.
    see what they say on

Only oral medicine will completely eliminate the problem, but for now try to wear shoes that dont make your feet sweat constantly, change sox often, and use antifungal creams or sprays...

Is toenail fungus really such a health issue?

In all honesty, I don't think I ever noticed people's toenails until Lamisil started their nauseating campaign of fungus ads.Is toenail fungus really such a health issue?
It is not a serious problem, but it is a cosmetic problem more. If the infection is serious you can loose your nails although they do grow back but with the infection it is a dangerous circleIs toenail fungus really such a health issue?
It is harmful, because it involves a foreign pathogen invading your body. It makes sense to go ahead and treat it as soon as possible.
idk. toenail fungus is disgusting. but it isn't a health issue. it doesn't make people sick or anything. just gross to see that's all. i should know cuz i work in a nursing home.

I think I have a ingrown toenail. Is there anything I can do without going to a doctor?

A few months ago, I have to get my toenail removed. Now it is almost fully grown back, but I think I have an ingrown toenail now. When I got it removed before, I had to get novacaine (sorry, this is probably spelled wrong) of course, but needles scare me horrible and it was very painful. I'd really love to be able to avoid that. So is there anyway I can take care of the problem without having to see a doctor?I think I have a ingrown toenail. Is there anything I can do without going to a doctor?
Ooh, I've had an ingrown toenail b4. The only things you can try to do is soak your foot in hot salt water or take something pointy and lift up your toenail with it so the ingrown part is above your skin. These things are not guarenteed to work, but I tried them, and the lifting up your toenail thing worked for me.I think I have a ingrown toenail. Is there anything I can do without going to a doctor?
Without getting too gross, I had an ingrown toenail and I pulled it out myself. It hurt at first but I felt tremendous pain relief just a short while later. On the other hand, my sister had chronic ingrown toenails and always had to get her toenails removed. Now, as long as she keeps her toenails short, she doesn't have a problem.
I don't remember the name, but Dr. Scholl's makes an OTC product. All you have to do is put a foam ring around where the ingrown nail is, then fill it with the medicine, wrap and band-aid around it and let it sit. Once it has softened the nail, and can use tweezers or nail clippers to get it out.
you can cure it at home, but the likely hood of it coming back is big. i would go to the doctor and have them remove it because 1- they will do a better job %26amp; 2- it probably won't come back.
If you can not soak it and cut it out yourself you will probably have to see the doctor
try soaking it twice daily in epsom salts, it worked for me, oh and im deathly afraid of needles too.
Try cutting a v shape in the middle of your nail. Then when the nail grows it grows into the v and not to the side x

Long term treatment for my ingrown toenail?

I have a recurring ingrown toenail. The doctor can cut it for 2 weeks of relief, but then it grows into the skin again. The one side of nail is just getting shorter and shorter so I don't know what I could do. It very painful and easily gets infected. My goal is to get it grown out to the edge again, but the skin of the tow won't let it do that easily. Any suggestions?Long term treatment for my ingrown toenail?
I've been watching this is question waiting for someone more knowledgable to respond, but it's been awhile. I would talk to your podiatrist about placing something in between the nail and skin as the nail grows out to create a barrier and lift the nail slightly to keep it from digging into the skin.

its been like this for six months and i dont know what to do. it doesnt hurt or anything but i would like for it to fall off. how can i make it fall off at home? or should i go to the doctors? My toenail has been blackish for atleast six months now b/c i jammed it. what should i do?
It is hard to say without seeing the toe. Go see doctor. they can give you something to help with possible infection as well as give you the best advice as to how to save the toe nail in the long run.

I lost my big toe nail due to a similar accident. There was nothing the doctor could do to save it but at least he was able to clean it up and stop infection. My toenail has been blackish for atleast six months now b/c i jammed it. what should i do?
The same thing happened to me, and my nail eventually fell off by itself, and a new nail was growing in. The color was from dried blood under the skin.
slightly pull it off with twizers and if that hurts to much i suggest you go to a doctor. hope i helped :]

definitely you need to get rid of fungus!

for me worked very well ZetaClear!Nail fungus is tough to treat. The extracts in Zetaclear provide the most powerful therapeutic effect for healthy looking nails.

Obviously, you can't spray herbicide on your feet or hands! The next best thing is Zetaclear. It's made from all-natural homeopathic ingredients. This product works time after time and results are guaranteed. This extra strength solution is designed to be as aggressive and strong as possible, without causing irritation.

It worked fast and still works for me!

I do not know if any pharmacies carry ZetaClear but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here http://www.zetaclear.com/?aid=749165Toenail Fungus any way to get rid of it?
Itraconazole, fluconazole, grisofulvin, and terfinabine are the generic names for toenail fungus medications. These medications need careful administration because of the harmful side effects it can give to the patient. It is also very important that if you want to combine these medications with other drugs, seek consent of your doctor. These medications are quite expensive though. In dealing with toenail fungus medication, it is essential that you must follow the instructions and prescription of its dosage in order to achieve the best result you want. It is imperative to perform the treatment religiously.

My dog ripped out a toenail what can I do for her?

when I let her in this morning her foot was bleeding a little and I noticed a toenail is missing. what should I do for her and what should I be concerned about? My dog ripped out a toenail what can I do for her?
You may want to take her to the vet to have it examined. The danger is infection. The vet may need to cut the nail back further into the quick to speed healing and to help make sure the nail will grow back normally. Some vets prefer to anesthetize the dog for the procedure, other more ';old school'; vets will cut it while the dog is awake. It's very painful but over quickly and will actually minimize the dog's discomfort because they don't have an exposed quick after the cut.My dog ripped out a toenail what can I do for her?
Call the vet first. One of my dogs did that a few weeks ago, I think from the snow that had turned to ice. It bled a lot, and you could tell she was favoring it. Vet said to keep checking for signs of infection, and if possible, neosporin, but only if she is sleeping and won't lick it all off. My dogdid fine after 2 or 3 days, but because of all the funk and germs they walk in, keep it clean and check it.
Just call your vet and see if they want to see her. For now just clean the paw off and if it is still bleeding then apply some pressure and get it to stop.
Hmm,a veterinarian comes to mind, wouldn't you think?? Suppose you ripped out your thumbnail, would you see a doctor???
Ouch, that's gotta hurt! If you don't have a vet to call maybe you can go to a site that I use and ask the expert. It's called Practical pet care, you'll need to log in to ask a question. Your doggie may need stiches?

I have a collection of toenail clippings. What can I use them for?

I have been collecting them for years now. It would be a shame to just dump them. Surely they will have some use.I have a collection of toenail clippings. What can I use them for?
Stitch them into your underpants and Voila! Undies that scratch your bum for you.

This would also work with fingernails.I have a collection of toenail clippings. What can I use them for?
    WTHHHH ?! eww

why would u collect TOENAIL CLIPPINGS.. how many do u have? hahahhaa thats pretty nastayy dude.

put them in a tin can and put a lid on it. give it to a baby as a present..would make a nice rattle.
You can continue to tell everyone about your collection to gross them out. Look how well it's working!

Or substitute them for coconut in a cream pie.
Sprinkel them in your garden. LIke human hair they will help keep critters out of your garden.
Sprinkle them in a perimeter around your plants outside. It'll keep the slugs away.
glue them together and make a necklace
Hair and toenails decompose in a compost pile. Mix them with soil. They will eventually break down and be plant food.
Mix them into brownie batter for a mouth watering texture. Enjoy!
Send them to me, I also collect them
    good answer!

How can i make my toenail grow long fast?

I have my toenails painted black, and i noticed that one foot had really long nails. so i trimmed them until they looked normal, but i accidentally trimmed half of my little toe's nail off. it looks really pathetic. any help? How can i make my toenail grow long fast?
paint the skin where the nail used to be, or put on a fake plastic nail, idk?????????

but its IMPOSSIBLE to make your nails grow fast real quick

What would cause the big toenail to keep having horizontal split?

Lack of certain nutrients, if you dont currently take vitamin supplements I would recommend some, also dont forget vital importance at least 8 glasses of water every day. This helps keep your skin looking young and replenish your entire body! What would cause the big toenail to keep having horizontal split?
    poor diet.

  • Does vinegar work for curing toenail fungus?

well does it? and i know you are not supposed to paint your toes, and always wear open-toe shoes, but i cant go to school like that! im not crazy!Does vinegar work for curing toenail fungus?
Apple cider vinegar most certainly can work, but the best kind to use is one from the health food store that has the ';mother'; in it (which is like scum, which is the starter) as this vinegar has natural enzymes in it that are useful to health. The Heinz brand and other store brands have been pastuerized and do not have all of their healing properties. The enzymes in Heinz and other pastuerized brands have been killed.

Bragg's Pure Apple Cider Vinegar is about the best there is on the market. A quart will cost you about $5-$7 dollars, depending on store, but it is the best.

You should most likely soak your toe in vinegar twice a day, for at least 1/2 hour a day, for best results. And yes, the Ti Tree oil will also help, if you apply it topically inbetween soaks. It is best used with DMSO (found on internet) as this will help your body absorb the Ti Tree oil immediately.Does vinegar work for curing toenail fungus?
    Vinegar might work.....but.....

also try Alpha Lipoic Acid (1,000 mg.).
Yes, white vinegar applied daily around the whole nail. Also peroxide is noted as a cure. It takes several months for either to be effective as the nail grows, you trim off the affected nail and eventually end up with healthy toe nails. You are quite correct in not painting your nails. As far as going to school and not being like the rest of your class mates - you are not cattle following the leader, you are your own person and nothing wrong at all with being the trend setter, they don't need to know you are healing a problem!
Toe nail fungal infection are caused primarily due to fungal infection of the nails of the toe. The fungal infections cause thickening of the nails. If not treated the fungal infection can spread to other nails and there is always a chance of secondary infection by bacteria. Apple cider vinegar is a very good bactericidal and fungicidal agent. Regular use of Apple cider vinegar can resolve the fungal infection and prevent its relapse.

How To Take: Soak your toenails for 15 - 20 minutes in basin full of warm water and natural apple cider vinegar mixed in equal proportion. When done, dry your toenails thoroughly.the treatment should be repeated for at least three months for complete resolution of toe nail fungal infections.
    use listerien mouth wash
A mix of Clorox and water might work as long as it is topical.

Like a tablespoon in a glass of water then swab the area with a Q-tip.
Try tea tree oil. It is an antifungal.
Yes. Apple cider vinegar is the best. Never wear the same shoes two days in a row. Fungus likes a warm, moist, dark environment. Shoes need two days to fully dry out. Soak feet 20-30 min 3-5 days a week depending on how bad the infestation is. Put on clean socks every day as well.
Don't know about vinegar but vaseline is supposed to wrok on toenail fungus, according to this article from wikipedia:

What is the name of the surgery to remove an ingrown toenail?

It's all right here @ http://familydoctor.org/208.xmlWhat is the name of the surgery to remove an ingrown toenail?
Why surgery? I lived with someone with ingrown toenails and learned to treat them. First, after a bath or soak, you file the top of the nail until it's thin - make sure you do the sides and don't go too thin - then you snip a small ';V'; in the center or a little towards the side that's worse - on the corners where it's digging in stuff tiny pieces of cotton soaked in an antiseptic. Don't trim the corners shorter than the middle. Or you can have surgery. Not really an answer to your question, eh?What is the name of the surgery to remove an ingrown toenail?

Does getting an ingrown toenail taken out by the doctor hurt?

i have 3 , (two on one toe), on both big toes.

i've tried the soaking way, and i've had these ingrown toenails for 2 or 3 years, but they're still painful.

so does getting an ingrown toenail taken out by the doctor hurt?, and is there any other ways of getting rid of them without soaking?Does getting an ingrown toenail taken out by the doctor hurt?
No... they numb the toe first. It's just a little prick you know, with a needle. Just like going to the dentist. I finally had the sides of my big toe nails removed at the nail root by a podiatrist quite a few years ago. No more in-grown since. It's worth it.Does getting an ingrown toenail taken out by the doctor hurt?
    They insert a needle,

And thats really all that hurts.

Except when it starts to un-numb,

Then it starts to hurt a bit.

    I suggest doing it.

Try not to get them to come back though,

Because it you have to get them laser removed permanently,

The look kind of stupid being really skinny.

    I would know.

I had this done a few times before getting it done permanently.

    And it doesn't ';Hurt like hell!';
About 3 weeks ago, I was fed up with the ingrown toenail I had been suffering with for many years. I just got tired of dealing with the pain and the soaking and the whole thing. I looked up a Doctor of Podiatry and he explained all the options. The area of least intrusion was to have him cut the sides of the nail and kill the roots on the side so they won't grow back. First he sprayed my toe with something which was cold and it numbed my toe. He then injected both sides of the toe with a numbing fluid. He waited until I could feel nothing. Then he did the cutting and placed some chemical on the area where he removed the nails and some skin. Yes, there was some bleeding, but no pain. The Doctor bandaged up my toe and told me to keep the bandage elevated for an hour when I went home. The next day I could take the bandage off, take a shower then put neosporin on the cuts, place a H bandaid on my toe and go about my business doing this twice daily until I went back to revisit. I have never had any pain associated with the surgery and now I can finally sleep without pain. Hope this helps
    its gonna hurt like hell
go to your doctor before getting an infection

good luck, let me know how it goes
Hell yeah it's gone hurt...i've seen a grown man cry from gettin his out!
The only thing that is painful is when they numb it, that only lasts for seconds. It feels better after having them removed. Only way to get rid of them is by removing them. I had my nails from my big toes permanently removed I got tired of having it done after a few years several times a year.

You can buy tea tree oil in most beauty stores, e.g., The Body Shop; but I don't think it's the best treatment if you have a fungus infection. There are athelete's foot treatments in the pharmacy for regular foot fungus, and there's another treatment specifically for the type of fungus that infects the toenail and makes it yellow and crumbly. Ask the pharmacist. If you have the second type, it will take longer than a week for it to recover (I think).

These products are not terribly expensive, about the same price as other over-the-counter cosmetics and drugs. I'm not familiar with the exact prices.

Benny, this one is easy, if you have toe nail fungus, your toenails will be thick and have a yellowish color to them, There's only one way medically to get rid of this but is way expensive $200- $300 for one pill, I heard that soaking your toe nails in white vinagar several times a week will help this problem.. I am scared to get this done so please give me as much info as possible.Im having ingrown toenail removed what am i to expect?
I just got an ingrown toenail removed yesterday. This is exactly what my doctor did..

pricked my toe with 2 little shots to numb the top layer of the skin (painless)

gave me a shot of novocaine on each side of my toe (this does hurt a bit, but only lasts a few seconds)

after the toe was all numb, she cut a line straight down my nail and took the whole corner of the nail out that was digging into my skin.

bandaged me up and i was out the door.

my toe hardly hurt after the novocaine wore off. it actually felt better after the surgery! i kept my foot up the whole day that i got it done. today im walking around fine!!!

you will feel so much better after you get it done. the worse part is the shots but like i said, it only lasts a few seconds.Im having ingrown toenail removed what am i to expect?
Well, how are you getting removed? If your getting it cut out,

they numb your toe, and cut it out. It's quite painful for a few

days afterward. When you get there, they put numbing med.

on a needle and prick it aroud your toe, to numb it. Once

your toe is numb, they do some things, where they almost

cut open your toe, and cut out the ingrown toenail. It's not

a MAJOR cut in your toe, but it's not surgical or anything. It's

nothing scary either. After, they wrap up your toe with ALOT

of bandages. Your toe will probably bleed, but thats normal.

It'll hurt for a while after the numbing medicine wears away..

just take some iBprofine, Advil, Tylenol, anything that helps

relieve pain. You'll ocassionally have to go back to the doctor

to get your toe checked up on, but that's normal too. It's not

that scary, and it's not that painful, as long as you wear more

loose shoes, and take medicine to help the pain. Just don't

be scared! Remember it hurts more if you DON'T get it

removed, so it's worth it. Good luck %26amp; I hope all goes well!
It will be numb, they will cut the nail down the side, then pull out the piece that was cutting in. Later, when the numbness wheres off, it will hurt and you can soak it. From now on, cut your toenails stright across, not rounded, I hear that prevents them becoming ingrown.
    Expect pain......lots of it.
cant b bothered writing heaps...... just this.......pain and blood........ oh yes...... there will be blood!!!!!!

This causes an imbalance in bacteria-bad over takes good. It will take a while but you can help it to get back in balance. There are a number of Pro-biotics (refrigerated) in the health food stores-expensive but it will kick start the process. Avoid, obviously, antibiotics. Eat garlic %26amp; live-culture yogurt-especially the ones for digestion. Check out some sites on Candida (the bad bacteria) overgrowth and see if some of the symptoms aren't something that you have experienced. Eat plenty of fiber and eliminate (get familiar with your toillet) at least once a day as the bacteria grows in your lower intestins (and then pisses off the rest of your body). Don't get too caught up in some of the fixes for this...keep in mind it is designed to be there in fewer numbers and you won't get rid of it but modern meds have made it an issue and you may have come to a time in your life that you need to get it in check. Good luck to you.
Dr Weil says you can knock out toenail fungus with tea tree oil, but you have to be very patient and consistent in your approach. Try searching the topic on his web site. I believe you can apply it safely 2x per day, and it may take about 6 months to work.
Vicks vaporub and tea tree oil can possibly help eliminate toenail fungus.
having the toe nails removed does hurt but might be the only way

yes the medication is not good i agree

    maybe your a diabetic ?

try 1/2 water mixed with 1/2 peroxcide mixture spray on feet and toe nails before bed for fungus
for the fungus use Tea Tree oil

Half of my toenail got ripped off, should I go to urgent care?

I opened my front door really fast and it ripped off half of my toenail, should I go to urgent care, or do something else to help it?Half of my toenail got ripped off, should I go to urgent care?
I think you should go to urgent care because if you don't you could get an in-ground toe nail (that is when your nail grows into your skin and then under your skin) and if that happens you need surgery to get that fixed so i think that going to urgent care is better then waiting and something else happens and then you regret not going to urgent care. I hope I helped and I also hope your toe feels better soon!Half of my toenail got ripped off, should I go to urgent care?
Ouch, that had to hurt. It might be a good idea. you might need the rest of the toe nail removed(with anesthetic) so that it can heal and grow back properly. You'll need to keep it clean and bandaged to avoid infection. This happened to my husband as a teenager. they took off the rest of the toe naila dn put him in one of those blue shoe thingys so he could heal properly

What would you do if accidentally there's a part of wood in your toenail?

I can't get it out because it hurts like hell. What would you do if accidentally there's a part of wood in your toenail?

    tweezers. or a doctor
I would definitely go to a doctor and ask him to remove it.
    Its called ';a splinter';

    #1 DO NOT PANIC

    #2 DO NOT CALL 911

    #3 ';When in danger, when in doubt, run in circles scream and shout';

#4 Let it grow out by itself or pull it out regardless of the minor pain (no matter how bad you think it is, its only temporary)
I'd have a doctor take it out.
If there is not infection yet, soak it in dish soap. You can alternate every hour, soda water or epensalts water for ten minutes an hour then dishwater for ten minutes the next. Use warm water. To be honest, this can be done half an hour to an hour apart. This should bring the toenail out or make it come out far enough to pull out without pain. If redness or red lines happen, get to the phone and call your doctor or e.r.

When using this technique, I have not had to see the doc. If I did not use it, I would have to. Worked in metal shavings that got into my fingernails and other places.
if its not too deep and not too big I would have someone take it out with tweezers

  • What Happens If I Take off my Toenail?

My big toenail is yellow and very think, i was wondering if i cut it off or ask a surgeon to cut it off what will happen? Will I grow another nail? What Happens If I Take off my Toenail?
Sounds like your taking this a bit too far. Have you tried treating the nail for a fungal infection or similar..? A quick trip to the docs should have you sorted in no time %26amp; without the pain.

Better still, consult a good chiropodist. What Happens If I Take off my Toenail?
if you do it yourself, it will hurt loads and loads and you could get a nasty infection init. Go to the docs and they can remove it safely, a new one will eventually grow back, unless its a reocuring problem and they can remove the nail bed also and it wont grow back
It will bloody hurt thats what happens.....pain!
    pain
Not if he takes it off with the root.
    ya
I have a toenail the same as this, which is also ingrowing, and I have cut it right back as far as it will go, but without taking the root out( I would not advise you to do that...even if you could) It didn't hurt to cut it back, and was so brittle it came way easily.I was hoping it woild grow back normal but always grows back the same. I had it tested, because I w as sure it was fungal nail disease, but It came back that it wasn't.
    Yes.
My son had both big toenails removed as they were ingrown. They numb it first but bloody hell it hurts! They also make you sign something in case it grows back (one has already!)
I would definantly see a doctor about it. If you are only cutting it off for looks, I wouldn't do it. It could get very infected and maybe not ever or take a long time to grow back. Going to a doctor would prevent these things if you decide to go through with it.

    Good luck!
yes but it'll be very painful once it's off I imagine
If its yellow and very thick - you have a fungal infection. They wont cut off a fungal nail - ask your doctor for turbinifine which should take the infection away. Other than that tea tree oil drops on twice a day but it takes about 6-9 months to see any improvement as the infection will just grow out with the nail.
Yellowing of the nail could be a nail dystrophy, but it could also mean that it is infected with a fungus, usually Taenia Rubrum. If the infection is deeply rooted sometimes the advice is to have the nail removed. This should be done by a professional and the new nail treated as it grows up. Consult a GP or a chiropodist.
I smashed my big toenail and it came off in Oct and now it's Jan and it has grown back halfway. So to answer your question, yes it will grow back. Sounds like with the yellow color and thickness of your nail, it may be fungal related. Ask your doctor about it. May be able to give you medication for it.
You will say ';ouch'; and you will hop around like a lunatic
well, for my friend's mom, skin just grew over the whole thing.....apparently it looks weir...i would say see a doctor about it first, and get their advice- they'll send you to a surgeon if it's really necessary (unless you're just doing it for cosmetic reasons) but usually a new nail doesnt grow back - as far as i know...
If they take off the whole thing you won't ever grow another one. They can put a fake one I think.
    yes. eventually.

How do I use the guillotine-style toenail clippers? How much of the nail do I stick in?

If the dog has clear nails, then it is easy to so where the quick is. However, if the nail is dark it is a little tougher. On the underside of the nail, there will be a hollow part, then it will come to a ';v'; and be solid (this is also where the nail will start to curve down). It is safe to trim up to that point. How do I use the guillotine-style toenail clippers? How much of the nail do I stick in?
If your dog has black nails, you need to be very very careful using the clippers. I suggest you take just a little off of each nail, maybe a quarter of an inch or so. You do not want to cut the cuticle because that would be bloody and painful to the dog, and you will have heck to pay ever getting those clippers close to your dog again!

If your dog has white nails (or a combination of black and white nails) you are in luck! You should be able to see the cuticle through the white nails and you would cut between one fourth and one half inch from there.

If you are cutting blind though, know that the cuticle will retract with each correct cutting. What this means is that if you will cut your dog's nails on a regular basis, say weekly, you will eventually get the nails to the desired length.

The desired length for dogs by the way is when the dog is standing, the nails are just above or right at ground or floor level without the toes being lifted by them.

Kudos to you for taking responsibility for cutting your dog's nails! How do I use the guillotine-style toenail clippers? How much of the nail do I stick in?
You should get the other style of nail clippers.
You stick the nail in and clip. Just like it looks. Here's a few tips for you:

If your dog has light colored nails, you should be able to see the fleshy quick through the top of the nail. Do not cut into that, as it hurts, and bleeds pretty profusely. For dark nails, you may need to look underneath to find the quick. As long as you're cutting outside that area, it just dead nail, and won't hurt.

You may want to get a metal nail file as well, since some nail clippers will leave rough edges that can get caught on carpets and bedding, and are unpleasant for you and the dog.

If you're having trouble placing the cut, you may want to get someone more experienced to show you how, a vet tech at your vet's office will no doubt know how to clip nails like an expert, and probably won't charge you for the lesson.
depends where the quick is in then toenail.
I generally clean my toenails before i cut them to give me an outline on where to cut, and remember, try not to cut on an angle to prevent ingrowns ...
if you have a dog with dark nails just do the tip, maybe about 1/8 of an inch or just a hai more. otherwise if you have a dog with light colored nails just get him/her into a place with good lighting and look for the pink vein that is in the nail and cut enough to just barely miss the vein. also there are some cheap scissor type clippers that have little guards on them to keep you from cutting too much.

How can I get rid of an hungus inside one of my feet toenail?

I dont know why is this happening, I dont have athletes foot, Im always taking care of my feet, so they can look perfect. How can I get rid of an hungus inside one of my feet toenail?
I saw my doctor years ago about this and was asking about the medication you see on TV about it. He said he'd prescribe it if I was really sure about it but that he normally trys to sway people away from that to topical solutions instead because of side effects. If I remember right, the pill for it can be really rough on your liver and the effectivness on the toe fungus is so-so at best. His suggestion was to file the area down a little each day and apply an anti-fungal cream on it then to leave it out when not wearing shoes. I've worked with many family practitioners and they refer all their patients to podiatrist for this kind of problem. A lot of family doctors do not do this procedure. I would go to a podiatrist(foot doctor).

My toenail is falling off from pointe, what should i do and can i still dance en pointe?

My toenail was bruised, and is now almost all the way off. should i just wait for it to fall of and a new one to grow in? will i be able to dance en pointe without a big toenail? i'm not really sure what to do.

    thanks for you guys's help!!!

dance on.My toenail is falling off from pointe, what should i do and can i still dance en pointe?
This is a reasonably common problem with newer dancers. I would suggest you first get some better shoes. That should help alleviate the problem in the future.

Without actually seeing the injury I wouldn't be able to tell you if you should dance on it until it heals, but whatever you do, do not remove it. Let it heal naturally. If you pull it off you could risk losing the nail completely. If you let it fall of it is much more likely to heal correctly. Your best bet is to consult a doctor as well as your dancing instructor. My toenail is falling off from pointe, what should i do and can i still dance en pointe?
When my big toenail bruised it took a long time to fall off, but eventually it did. During that time a new one was growing underneath it. You can still dance en pointe. It will probably hurt, but I don't think it's worth going completely off pointe for months while it finishes healing. Do what you can to reduce the pain. It will actually feel better once it falls off, but I wouldn't recommend pulling it off yourself. Ouch!

It will probably grow back looking kind of weird, which is fine. Eventually it'll look normal again, but talk to a doctor if it looks like it might become ingrown or something.

In the future if you go to a doctor directly after it bruises, they can help you by removing the blood from under the nail. Then it won't hurt or fall off.
Your pointe sheos are probably too small. My toenail also bruised and I now have different shoes that fit much more comfortably. I recommend you do not pull it off and stop dancing on pointe until it is healed. You can also visit the doctor to prescribe you medicine to reduce the risk of infection.

Did you injure your toe? If so don`t worry. The skin underneath will be dry but nail will slowly grow back if you`ve lost it due to injury. The same thing happened to me. It was a fingernail, it grew back, no problem! I`ve heard you only get two,I`m not sure if that is true, i don`t want to lose fingernail a second time to find out!

  • Every summer one of my big toenail split. I get a pedicure every 2 weeks. What can I do?

when u get pedicure, tell them to file the edges of your nails not the top. they always file the flats of your nails and it weakens them . coat in sally hansen diamond hard nails before you put color over it. file nails dont clip.Every summer one of my big toenail split. I get a pedicure every 2 weeks. What can I do?
Every time you get a pedicure they buff down the nail causing it to become thinner and weaker. Plus with the fact of wearing flip flops or going to the beach or pool is making your nails more vulnerable to breaking.

Try not getting a pedicure (at least professionally) for at least a month. Get special clear nail polish that makes the nail stronger. That should help and maybe try giving yourself a non-buffed pedicure inbetween the professional pedicures.Every summer one of my big toenail split. I get a pedicure every 2 weeks. What can I do?
Make sure you don't have nail fungus. If the nail is yellow as well as split, it might be fungus. And you might have gotten it from unclean pedicure tools.

If you think you have fungus, please do not take any kind of Lamisil. It can severely damage your liver. When I got toenail fungus I put on Vicks VapoRub every night for a few months. That was two years ago and it never came back. You must first file off all the yellow nail, then wash it off with a good soap like Ivory. Every night before you go to bed just put on thin layer of the Vicks. And I'd change pedicure people...
Maybe you're getting pedicures too often, buffing nails will make them thinner,I go every 4 to 5 weeks. Try waiting a little longer in between.

It would be irresponsible to answer your question without knowing exactly what pharmaceuticals you are taking. You should consult with your local pharmacist, you don't need to make an appointment or pay them for their advice. It is their job to know about the drugs that you are taking and they went through at least 4 years of medical school the same as your general physician. If the pharmacist is not available you should go to the nearest hospital ER and ask the nurse on duty.

You can purchase it at any pharmacy, such as CVS or Walgreens. The bottle is about $10, but lasts a long time - a small amount is all you need. If you cannot find it, just ask the pharmacist. BTW, make sure whatever you buy says 100% tea tree oil, and not a mix of something else. It should either be clear or a slight yellow-tan color.
WalMart in the vitamin supplement area. It's around 5.00. You have to look good because it comes in a small bottle and you may not see it at first. Or most pharmacies should have it just ask the pharmacist !!! Make sure it says 100% Tea Tree Oil.
You can go to your local drug store and they will have it on the shelves by the band-aids/antiseptics.
You can get small bottles at your local drug store. Very cheap!
health food store, vitamin cottage. Small bottle probably cost you around $5 or so.
Most health food stores carry it.
If that doesn't work too well, use Vick's vapor rub. It works amazingly.

i went to the doctors a couple of days ago to get my toenail removed, and the toe is big and fat now, and fluid comes out (clear fluid). when i had the toenail removed the doctor said to soak it in soapy water. what kind of soap? or should i just use epsom salt?I had my ingrown toenail removed what should i soak it in?
You need to soak that foot of yours in warm epson water mix at least three times a day. Let it air dry and Do Not wear a sock. You need to keep it wrapped and just wear a flipflop. Stay off of it as much as you can. It sounds as if you are starting to see signs of some infection possibly. you need to soak the toenail in 2 to 3 teaspoons of epsom salt and soak it twice a day. but your shower counts as one soak so you only need to soak it really once in the epsom salt. the doctor also said that leaking puss is totallt normal for at worse a few weeks after the ';surgery'; lol. ;-)

What happens when a toenail comes COMPLETELY off?

What happens if a toenail comes off COMPLETELY? like... the whole thing just comes off (i hit my toe and it came completely off)

will it ever grow back...? :S

if it will grow back, how long will it take to get back to lookin normal? What happens when a toenail comes COMPLETELY off?
It will grow back. I recommend that you see a doctor to prevent infection and/or an ingrown toenail. They hurt worse than your nail coming off.

The length of time it will take to grow back will vary from a few weeks to a few months. Depends on the speed of your nail growth. Toe nails grow 4x slower than fingernails, so don't freak out if it doesn't look like they are growing.

Because your toenail has been ripped out, it will most likely grow back thicker than it used to be to prevent the chances of it been ripped out again.

I hope your toe heals well again.

My brother stood on my toe a few years ago, like he stamped on it, and the nail doesn't grow properly anymore and it gets little lines and dents in it. It's kinda gross but it still grows.

Also when I was 13, I was goign to go get some milk in town, and when I got out of the car, I slammed the car door on my left index finger. It went all purple and the nail was half intact. Then the nail fell off and it looked disgusting underneath, it was all dried up blood. (I felt sick looking at it) It took a few weeks to grow back to full length, and it healed perfectly. What happens when a toenail comes COMPLETELY off?
It will be fine. A few years back I slammed my thumb in the car and the nail turned blue and fell off. When it fell off there was already a piece of nail under. I did not keep it covered or see a doctor and it came back fine. It grew back in probly 2 months.
it will take a long time for it to grow back....my toenail came off and it took it about a month for it to grow back.It will look normal but when its off it wont look normal but it will grow back in about a month
It will take a few weeks, even months to grow back completely. Go to your doctor to keep it form becoming ingrown. It may be crooks and not look normal ver again. See your doctor and keep it dry and covered. Ouchies!

    Yes it will grow back.

Be careful not to injure it again.

    For a few days,put a Band-Aid on it.

Also a little salt water wash will prevent infection and keep it clean.
Ask a doctor, but when I was young this happened, now I can't tell.

    2 your second question, forever.
oooh that must hurt? and yeh it does grow back out.. but see the doctor on a regular basis because ingrowing toe nail hurts even worse (i had that)

Is there now a device that drills holes into the toenail so anti-fungals can be placed at the infection site?

I read about this in the Harvard Medical Newsletter. Is there now a device that drills holes into the toenail so anti-fungals can be placed at the infection site?
Well, a hot-ended paperclip is a device, so yes! :-)

From http://www.healthline.com/sw/hr-nl-toena鈥?/a> (skip first paragraph to get to the drilling part)...

Harvard researchers are testing two treatments that would take a more direct route to the fungi, yet would still manage to get into tissue that is, well, as tough as nails. One experimental treatment involves the use of short-wavelength light that's strong enough to shine through translucent nail tissue and disrupt the growth and reproduction of the light-averse fungi. The results, although preliminary, are promising, and patients feel only a slight sensation of warmth from the light, according to Dr. Alexa B. Kimball, the director of a skin disease clinical trial unit operated jointly by Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital, both Harvard affiliates in Boston.

The other treatment involves cutting tiny holes in the nail. If you've ever banged the end of a finger or toe, you know how painful it can be when blood gathers under the nail and pushes on it. Doctors can treat these subungual (under the nail) hematomas by making holes in the nail so the blood can escape, relieving the pressure. Nail trephination, as it's called, for subungual hematomas has even been done with the hot end of a paper clip (but don't try this at home!).

Attacking toenail fungus this way involves rubbing antifungal cream into the holes so it reaches the fungi. Application of the cream isn't a problem 鈥?it can be done by patients at home, says Dr. Kimball. The tricky part is making the holes deep enough so the cream is effective, while not going too far and penetrating the nerve-laden soft tissue underneath. The Harvard researchers have used a new instrument with sensors that detect a change in resistance so it knows precisely how far to drill down. They hope to report results from the trial in 2007. In an earlier study, patients reported feeling virtually no pain when the same instrument was used to treat subungual hematomas.

Two important cautions: First, insurance companies tend to view toenail fungus as a cosmetic problem, so you may end up footing the bill for treatment, be it newfangled or an old standby. You may get coverage if you have diabetes, because toenail fungus in diabetics can lead to other sorts of infections. Second, people tend to assume that all deformed nails are caused by toenail fungus, when psoriasis, eczema, and other problems can affect nails. Be sure you have a definite diagnosis before starting any treatment.

How is the best and fastest way of eliminating toenail fungus?

Lamisil oral pills. You have to go to a foot doctor to get a prescription. They usually run test on your liver to make sure it is functioning correctly before giving you the prescription. This is the ONLY thing that worked for me. I now have beautiful toes that I love to show off! The pills may take a few weeks to get into your system and it may take up to a month or so be fore you see results, but it's worth it!How is the best and fastest way of eliminating toenail fungus?

    :D hope it works out
sounds like it, I kept getting them for years on both my big toes but someone told me to use an emery board and file the corners around like u would a finger nail, this causes the nail to grow to center instead of to corners. It worked . . I now file all my toe nails just like I do my finger nails and no more problems
Ok i've had the same thing and i've had it for a whole year yes a whole year cuz i keep cutting the nail. Let the nail grow out and it should be fine keep if clean keep it dry.

You can't I'm having one done under local anesthetic very soon, and boy how glad i will be to have rid of itHow can I get rid of a Ingrown toenail without seeing a doctor?
Get some OTC foot softer like Dr Shcoll's ect. Soak your feet in it for approx 15 -20 min. Then clip the toenail. It will be less painful if you soak your foot first.

Then keep your toenails clipped to avoid doing it again.

NOTE: You toes will be sore for a few days. That's normal. How can I get rid of a Ingrown toenail without seeing a doctor?
you have to see one, they can remove it pretty quick, good luck
I know this sounds crazy, but, it works, in the end of the toenail right in the middle at the end of your toe, snip out a triangle if you are looking down at your foot it will look like an upside down triangle, and kepp it that way until it grows out your toenail will start to grow in toward it and prevent any further ingrown toenails. As far as the ingrown nails you already have get as close to the skin as you can clip the nail and pull it out, it will hurt at first, but you will feel relief soon after, then pour peroxide on it and use neosporin and a bandaid on it for afew days and it will heal fine.
You'll have to see a doctor for that or else it will get infected and by then the pain will be so unbearable you'll be screaming for a doctor.

If a toenail spilts can it grow back together?

I have a toenail that got hit,and it split from the base of the nail to about halfway up.I don't want to remove it,and I don't want to go to the doctor will it heal back together? If a toenail spilts can it grow back together?
The split will not re-unite, but in time the nail will grow out as good as new. It will probably take several months, depending on your age. Keep the nail well trimmed and protected from further abuse to keep the split from propagating. If a toenail spilts can it grow back together?
You could just cover it with a bandage and wait for it heal because it, but the nail will grow in layers that are uneven with the rest of your nail. I suggest you go to the doctor so he can remove the fractured nail and allow a new, healthy one to grow.
Okay... here is the deal. Most people's split nails grow back just fine. I've had many a nail disaster that has grown out. BUT! When I was a child I fell on the concrete and split my big toenail. It permanently split, and now where it had split skin has grown in between. It has been like that since I was around 6 years old now. I went to a nail specialist with my father because he too had a split nail that hadn't healed in years (on his finger). The doctor said with surgery he'd have a 1 in 3 chance of the nail growing back normally and he looked at mine and said there was nothing he or anyone could do about it. He said that the nail had not just split, but the nail bed had split such that I now have two nail beds separated by skin. He found it fascinating and said he hadn't seen many cases like it, so it's probably rare. But I just wanted to inform you that sometimes these things do not grow back normally, like my big toe, which I used to be very self-conscious of, but now have come to grips with it.

In the end if yours does not grow back normally just remember it's just a nail and things could be a lot worse.
From experience, as your nail grows out, it will grow back together....but it will take a while. i would suggest keeping it covered (ex: bandaid) so that you do not catch it on something.

What can i do for a broken toenail?

About a month ago i dropped something on my big toe and the whole nail is bruised and now just last week a friend stepped on my toe and the nail broke along the base of the toe but it is still attached. What can i do to ease the pain and to protect the nail? What can i do for a broken toenail?
This is not a wise *** ed answer but super glue will hold it in place until it's ready to come loose from your toe. Many folks don't know it but super glue is used in hospitals often. What can i do for a broken toenail?
My sister used to use this ointment that was made for her horses, whenever somebody had a big gash of some kind. You might want to look into buying some horse ointment. And I would say don't do lots of activities where you'd be walking around or doing anything vigorous where you can't watch your toe. Pour peroxide on it to keep it from getting infected.
I would put a band-aid over it and just leave it alone. It will heal itself.
soak it in pinesol and warm water, or povidone Iodine solution, get ingrown nail medication , apply, it has benzocaine 20%, wear open toe shoes, file nail edges, eventually, it will fall off. some people take a hot needle and puncture the nail to release the blood underneath, it doesn't hurt, cause nails have no nerves, but, the thought of it seems to hurt, try to release the blood,/bruise under the nail. that's what the docs will do. elevate foot also. the relief of the pressure is almost immediate, don't do if scared of blood and don't burn self from hot sewing needle.

What do i do about my bruised toenail, can i save it from falling off?

I had too little shoes for soccer and it was hurting really bad and then i took my nail polish off to find that it was blue and that the nail seemed less stable then a week later i found that it bleeding around the corner and the side seems loose too, what do i do? can i save my nail? What do i do about my bruised toenail, can i save it from falling off?
If it's discolored, it's unlikely that you can save it. I stubbed my toes that bad before, when it comes off it's totally painless and it grows right back.

How to get rid of a ingrown toenail?

How to get rid of a ingrown toe?

How can u get rid of an ingrown toe-nail without it hurting or having surgeryHow to get rid of a ingrown toenail?
If the toenail is not too badly ingrown and isn't infected, there are a few things you can do to help. First, if the nail is long enough, cut a deep ';v'; shaped notch dead center of the nail. That will help relieve the pressure on the side of the nail and help pull it upwards on the sides. Then you can use a bit of cotton wool underneath the corner that is ingrown to help keep it lifted while the ingrown portion grows out. You will want to change that bit of wool every day. It helps if you do all this after you soak the foot in warm water and dry it well. The next thing to do is attend to what caused the nail to grown inwards to begin with. Most often nails grow in because you cut them too short, and the toecaps of your shoes are too small- or the shoes themselves are too small. Your toenail should come to exactly the end of the toe itself. When you put your finger againts the tip of the toe, you should be able to feel the edge of the toenail. Next, if the toecaps of your shoes are too snug, so that you can't wiggle your piggies and spread them slightly apart inside the shoe- it's forcing your toes together and the nails ingrown. You need a shoe with a wider toe cap. If the ends of the toes- any of the toes- touch the tip of the shoe at any point, when you stand, walk or sit, the shoe itself is too small. Replace shoes that do not fit for ones that do. Then also pay attention to how tightly you pull your socks on as well. If you yank that sock on as tight and snug as it can get, the subtle pressure can also force a nail to grow in. When you put on a sock, you should always pull that tip away from the toes a tad bit, and make sure you don't tighten it up sliding your foot into the shoe. Now the fact is, an ingrown nail will just ache and hurt until you relieve the pressure and get it grown out correctly. If it becomes infected, then the only cure is to remove the ingrown part. The treatments I listed will hurt a bit as well- not cutting the nail of course, but lifting that corner up will. It will hurt less as the ingrown portion grows out. And if you do not correct the shoe/sock/toenail length problem, nothing will help and you will just get more ingrown toenails. While it grows out, it will also help if you go barefoot or in stocking feet as much as you can. Even a well fitted shoe is going to make it ache a bit.

That happened to me from running track in high school. It will grow back and will stop hurting almost right after it falls off. Don't plan on wearing sandals in public for a while though. You may wish to start a biotin (variation of the B vitamin) regimen though. That vitamin will aid not only in the regrowth but stronger hair/nails and healthier skin. Any vitamin store should have it.My big toenail is about to come off from bloodblisters I got from working out. What do I do?Will it grow back
Freakin nasty dont ask that here
Toenails are dead cells etc. in your body and so they will always grow back but if this gets weirdly infected or you're in too much pain you should see a doctor, they can make sure it's not getting worse.
no worries it will grow back
ewwww, and yeah, they will grow back, but ewww.

One nail is darkened in color under the nail-and it is real painful in the morning, but just tender by the afternoon.Any suggestions? Is toenail fungus painful? are there any otc medicines or home remedies that anyone reccomends?
I work in a Derm's office and it doesn't sound like a fungus. Sounds more like you may have damaged the nail (wearing different shoes, dropping something on it etc) The nail needs to grow out which could take months depending on where the 'bruise' is. I have never heard anyone say that fungus was painful. If you want to treat it for fungus anyway, there are many creams for this treatment, go to any drug store and find one that is in your price range, use it twice a day and make sure you rub some of the cream under your toenail as far as you can as well as over the top of the nail.Is toenail fungus painful? are there any otc medicines or home remedies that anyone reccomends?
Go to a health food store or a supplement place like GNC and get some pure tea tree oil. follow the instructions carefully. if it is a fungus this will clear it up. if not, I would do what the other person suggested and see a doctor.
It could be a fungal infection, but you need to find out from a Dr. it could be something serious. They say to use vicks and rub that on the infected nail but i have never tried that myself.

Is there such a thing as toenail replacement surgery?

My son had a very botched ingrown toenail removal surgery that has left his two big toes with small malformed toenails. He is very self conscious of this and I wonder if there is such a procedure as having an artificial toenail placed on the toes...not the cheap plastic ones in the drugstore, a real professional podiatrist doing the job. Does anyone know if this exists? Serious responses only please. Is there such a thing as toenail replacement surgery?
    Theres surgery for everything nowadays...

I have the same problem %26amp; so did my sister (apparently these types of complications are common among people who have had surgery done to correct an ingrown toenail). I'm currently looking into options to get it corrected. I think I may just contact a plastic surgeon and see if they can do nething!

My little brother fraser, now 15 actually had his toenails removed on both big toes and it took around a year to heal, because of all the pain he went through and well thats the big toe the main one.

I hope Fraser does not have the same concern as your son as i know how daunting this can be, what a shame, i think if this toe has healed it should be ok.

Too be honest he may go through more pain than its worth, although i can understand that he would be self conscious.

yes i think you actually can get a replacement toe nail corrective surgery. Although i am really not sure weather it is being carried out in your local area, please refer to your son's gp or even further the surgeon who performed the removal and ask him weather this is possible. I do think it is although i wouldn't know who you could further elaborate on this.

I hope this has given you an insight into what lies ahead (if that makes any sense), Jen

My poor dog has a split toenail. Is there anything that I can do to help it heal faster?

It seems to be split all the way back to her paw. It seems to only be painful occasionally. How can this be prevented from happening again in the future? My dog and I both thank you for any knowledge that you can provide to help us fix this problem. My poor dog has a split toenail. Is there anything that I can do to help it heal faster?
I'd take her to the vet to prevent infection and any other underlying problems.

To prevent it in the future, make sure to keep your dog's tails trimmed. [They shouldn't click on hard surfaces.]My poor dog has a split toenail. Is there anything that I can do to help it heal faster?
TELL YOUR VET THIS COULD BE SERIOS!!!
My dog had a split toenail on her dew paw so I took her to the vet. She clipped it right up to the paw. My dog gave a little yelp but that was all. She put powder on it to stop the bleeding and it gave her no problem. I think you should have a vet look at it if its the regular paw. It might turn into a more serious problem.
My dog has one too. Its cut in half. Its because she is always jumping on me and she runs around in gravil a lot. Maybe she chews on it , that would make it worse.
Theres nothing better than a visit to the Veterinarian. They can provide you medications to solve the problem fast and secure for the dog, don't trust home remedies at all for pet's!!!!!
Take your dog to the vet because this can get to be serious if it's not already.
Have you thought of using finger nail glue to close it up...My mom has done it when i was a kid good luck....
    http://www.thedivadog.com/dog-grooming.a鈥?/a>

has great articles on dog grooming and nail care... Ouch, I'm sorry for that!
You should take her to the vet %26amp; have it cut back as far as possible - it will be painful for a second (like having a splinter removed) but then your dog will be fine. This will prevent an infection from going into her nail bed.

How long does it take for toenail grow back once lost to trauma?

I drop a cast iron grill on my toe and it hit the nail. Ouch!!!! It really hurt, I broke a toe. My fiance suggested soaking my foot in warm water daily to promote the growth of the nail so that the part I hurt I could trim off with the nail clippers. It took a little while but it did seem to work a bit quicker than not soaking it at all.How long does it take for toenail grow back once lost to trauma?
I hope it fell off completely...

2 of my toenails have been growing in a strange way for more than a year now, as if it grows in 2 separate peaces. Can i make them fall off, or do something to make them grow normal again? My toenail is growing in a strange way?
If it's been over a year, I would definitely seek medical attention. Good luck.My toenail is growing in a strange way?

Can I just leave an ingrown toenail alone?

    It doesn't hurt so much..

Or is there a way to get rid of it without going to the doctor? Can I just leave an ingrown toenail alone?
Sure you can leave it alone if it doesn't hurt too much. If it's not too bad you can try soaking your toe in warm water then gently trying to lift the corner of the nail that's ingrown out of the skin, and push the the skin back from the edge of the nail.

The best way to treat them is not to get them , most are caused by cutting nails too short or by shoes that don't fit right. If you get them frequently try correcting those two things. Can I just leave an ingrown toenail alone?
oook. good thing you arent in the army or i would yell at you. dont leave it alone, get it taken care of, by taken care of i mean 1 of 2 things. you can get a cue tip, take the cotton off of it, and pack it under the nail where the ingrowing nail is, helps lift it out and hopefully will grow right, (painfull) here is a picture to illistrate my meaning

OR get it removed! nobody wants a crazy infection happening on their feet, trust me. i have treated and removed over 200 ingrown nails in the last year and a half.

dont use tweesers or your nail clippers, as it will only shorten the nail, giving it more room to grow down!
The longer you leave it alone the more infection you will have later and the more pain you will be in. Soak your foot in warm for 15 minutes then lift the corner of the nail from the nail bed and try to cut the nail and pull it out with tweezers.

Best home remedy for an ingrown toenail?

Also, is it an infection if there is a whitish/greenish discharge?Best home remedy for an ingrown toenail?
Pour proxide on it, and do that every few hours. Cover it up so nothing can get in there. The infection will go down, and the discharge will stop. After that you will have to dig the nail out. Then keep proxide and bandage on it. Be careful when cutting your toe nails, cutting to short causes ingrown toenails. Same thing happened to me a couple of months ago, and I did just what I told you to do, and its fine now. Good luck.Best home remedy for an ingrown toenail?
Soak it in Epsom salt, or a basin of water with a few drops of iodine. If it is infected, you really are just going to need it to be removed. I had both big toes ingrown for about five years, and I had them removed about six years ago. they killed the nail bed, and i am so glad I had it done. They were extremely painful and I wish they had been taken care of sooner! Oh, and don't go to a regular general practitioner. Visit a podiatrist, they have a better idea of what they are doing.
soak it in absent salt but once its ingrown only choice is to cut it out . Also lil thing alot of people dont know is dont use toe nail clippers on your toes it causes them to ingrow in alot of people its better to tear them off not as neat looking but you wont get ingrown toe nails win/lose choice is yours
Surgery is the best remedy. There is no other remedy available.

ITS LIKE THEY ARE DECINIGRATING I CAN CUT THEM BACK REALLY FAR AND THE SKIN UNDERNEETH THEM IS DRY AND FLAKY TOO.. MY FOOT IS THE SAME WAY IT IS REALLY DRY AND I HAVE TO USE A PUMIC STONE EVERY DAY.. ITS REALLY WEIRD CAUSE ITS ONLY LIKE THAT ON MY RIGHT FOOT... MY LEFT FOOT IS PERFECTLY NORMAL.. WHATS GOING ON?Without going to the doctor how do i get rid of toenail fungus?
Try Vicks vaporub on your toenails. You have to put it on your toenails several times a day for a very long time, but the medication you get from your doctor for this problem also takes a long time to work (you'll be on this medication for several months). The prescription medication can also affect your liver, so it need to be monitored by your doctor when you're on it. So, I would start with the Vicks first, since it is harmless to try that. Then if it doesn't work, get a prescription for the toenail fungus.Without going to the doctor how do i get rid of toenail fungus?
    eeewwww

    GO TO THE DOCTOR.
Soak your foot in white vinegar...fungus cannot live in an acidic environment. It may take some time before things are really looking good again as it sounds like you have it pretty bad. So soak daily for about 2 weeks and you should see some improvement. Remember that toenails take awhile to grow out so it may be a month or two before your toenails really look good again. If the skin on your feet is also flaky you may have athletes foot ...is there itching or odor involved ?...if yes then get some athletes foot medicine in the drugstore. If no ...then use a product called Pretty Feet and Hands ...it's a sloughing lotion that will make your feet extremely soft....the extra skin just rolls right off when you rub the lotion in and then you just wash your feet as usual.

    Hope that helps you.
    lamasil? it's over the counter
Most would say to go to a podiatrist. I just saw an answer that said to soak in warm water with a couple drops of tea tree oil in it and they were cured in 2 weeks....personally (not telling you to) but I would try that. Couldn't hurt.
You got an infection. Probably the shower you share with people or you were barefoot somewhere. You can look for medications or liquids to put on the nails. Usually in stores. You can also try what people here are suggesting. I'd do that first. Keep an eye on the left foot, because that thing can spread or even jump to the other foot.
You know this might sound gross butthe best way to cure alot of exterior foot fungis is to pee on them in the shower.
Every night before you go to bed, rub vick vaporizer, the one you rub on your neck and chest when you have a cold. Rub this between your toes and feet where there is fungus, and then put a sock on, and sleep like this for a couple of weeks until it's gone. My brothers had this too, and I told them about this remedy I read, and they tried it and after a couple of days it started to go away. Now they feel more confident and wear open toe shoes. I don't know what makes this work, but it's cheap and effective. Try it it, you'll be glad you did.
Get a guy with a foot fetish to lick them clean! lol
My mom swears by Vicks vapo rub! She uses it all the time. I've also heard listerine will do the trick! good luck!
I'm no expert but an old wives tale to take care of foot fungus is soak your toes in some vodka for a few minutes each day. I have no idea if this works or is even a good idea.
Here's another vote for Vicks. Just rub a small amount on your nail twice a day. As the nail grows, you'll see the new growth is clear and healthy. it's going to take some time (months) depending on how fast it grows, but it really does work. And it's cheap.

How to fix an ingrown toenail?

I think I have an ingrown toenail. It's my big toe, and it seems like the nail is growing outward to the side and cutting into my skin. It hurts and its red swollen and has puss. I know this is gross but what should I do about it?How to fix an ingrown toenail?
Go to visit a doctor. Sometimes ingrown toenail needs a small surgery. How to fix an ingrown toenail?
You need to see a doctor. Ingrown toenails usually cannot be treated properly at home. If even a small piece of the nail is left it will continue to be painful and could cause infection. Cutting a V in the front of the nail also doesn't work, it is an old wives' tale.

A doctor can remove the part that is bothering you with a quick surgery. A chemical can be placed on the nail bed where the nail is removed so that it doesn't grow back. There is really nothing to it. You will be a little sore for a few days and will need to soak the toe daily but before long it will be healed and you will not have to worry about it happening again.
I had the same problem, so I went to my Dr. She sent me right upstairs to the podiatrist (foot

specialist.) He sprayed some numbing spray on my toe, then injected it with more

anesthetic. Then he removed that edge of my toenail and did something so it wouldn't grow

back. It's not noticeable, it doesn't look like he removed half my toenail or anything like that!

I had to take antibiotics for a week or 2, and wore bandaids on it in case it bled a bit.

It has been fine ever since, and it didn't hurt a bit, I swear!
First cut away the sides as much as you can and pull any of the nail out of the sides of your toe.

Then cut a V shape in the front of the toenail. As the toenail grows it will grown inward towards the V.
