What are the signs of an in growing toenail?

how can u tell if u have an ingrowing toe nail? i used to clip the corners of my big toenail and my mum told me not to as it would result in in-growing toenails. now round the edges of the toenail its really sore. is this an ingrowing toenail? What are the signs of an in growing toenail?
I'm not sure if that's an ingrown toenail or not, it might just be irritated or it may be a mild ingrown toenail. If it is, here are a few things to try: Clean the corners with rubbing alcohol (alcohol pads work great), peroxide, or iodine each day to keep them clean and stop them from getting infected. Then, it can help to sorta pry the corners up a bit each day (you can do this with something flat and metal--often nail clippers will have a little fold-out thing that works well) to keep it from staying lodged in your skin (just run the metal thing under your toenail and push up gently a bit). Soaking your feet first before you do this with warm water and epson salt can help, especially if you have brittle nails. Do this daily until the nail grows out. I've also heard that putting tiny bits of cotton under your toenails and letting it grow out over that can help. Once you've got your nail grown out past your toe, simply clip your nails straight across from then on and not down into the corners. Also, try looking online for more information and photos of ingrown nails if you want. I hope this helps. Good luck. Take care and best wishes! :)What are the signs of an in growing toenail?
Yes, the redness and soreness at the leading corners of your toenails are signs of an ingrown toenail. Cut it out before it gets too far in and infected. You don't want to have to go to the doctor who will end up cutting 1/2 your toenail off.
Sounds like an ingrown toenail. You may already have infection in there. I wouldn't risk probing in there because if it's not already infected you may infect it in an attempt to correct the situation. See a podiatrist.
either that or you have foot AIDs. beware...
