Can I get a pedicure if I have toenail fungus?

I know, gross. I don't want to pass it on to anyone else, but the salon should clean the insturments, shouldn't they?Can I get a pedicure if I have toenail fungus?
I'd be more concerned about clearing up the fungus before getting a pedicure. Most treatments for toenail fungus call for no polish until the fungus has cleared. Visit the doctor and if you absolutely must get that pedicure-- do it yourself.Can I get a pedicure if I have toenail fungus?
yes, they should and you have to go tthe doctor if it's serious but if it's gangrene setting in that's wet and it starting to have puss go to the hospital before you lost your toes too. they will give you antibiotics for the fungus wait until it cleared up and check to see if the next time you go to the beauty salon and asked them nicely do they clean their instruments or have them in packs like dentists do so they have a lot of the same instruments they can throw away after using them so they cannont spread diseases like that okay or better yet go online and check out what the health inspector for the salons that are in your area and investigate. if it has rats or visible unclean hi tale it out of there so you don't catch anything.What is nail fungus?

Fungi are simple parasitic plant organisms that lack of chlorophyll and therefore do not require sunlight to grow. It can easily attach to the nail and thrive off keratin, nail鈥檚 protein substance.





Where are fungi found?


Fungi are ubiquitous, meaning that they can be found everywhere. More common areas to contact them are bathrooms, locker rooms, gyms and unsanitary nail implements. Some people are simply more prone to becoming infected with fungi, often due to hereditary lack of immunity.











How do I know if my nail is infected with fungus?


When infected with fungus, nail becomes thicker, yellowish-brown or darker color and has a specific odor when filed. The biggest problem with nail fungus is that it鈥檚 extremely contagious and can easily spread to other nails or skin.





What causes the infection?


Nail fungus is usually caused by a trauma to the nail. If the nail is just slightly elevated of the nail bed, a space develops under the nail where water and microbes accumulate. This creates a perfect warm and damp environment for their growth. Exposing hand and feet to water will increase the risk of getting fungal infection. People with artificial nails are at higher risk due to the microscopic damage to the nail that causing it to rise.








How can I prevent it?


Wearing properly fitted shoes, drying feet thoroughly after shower or bath, wearing shower shoes when in public showers and properly disinfecting home implements are some of the ways to protect the nail from getting infected. Most importantly notify your nail technician if you notice any changes on your nails and consult your physician.





Is There a health threat?


Fungal infection will weaken the nail over a period of time, and can cause it to ultimately fall off for not being anchored to the nail bed. A prolonged infection can permit a bacterial infection to begin in the foot, which may result in foot or ankle ulcers and lead to blood poisoning.





How do I treat it?


There are several of internal and topical medications available on the market. Treatment will vary depending on the severity of each case. It can be lengthy due to the slow growth of the fingernail and especially toenail, anywhere from 4 to 12 months.
I have a fungus on my left big toe, I get pedicures all the time. I had one experience were the salon owner made me pay 5.oo more cuz of the fungus. That's my experience.


A friend told me to soak my foot 3 times a day for 3 months in vinegar an the fungus will go away. I haven't tried it yet to see if it works. Gotta be better than putting some FDA approved drug in my body.
ummm. if i were u i wouldnt do it because i know that not all nail salons dont clean their instruments right after they r done with each client. and im sure that u could pass it on to ppl if u r not too careful. you could buy things to give urself a pedicure and do it ur urself or have a willing friend do it for u.
You shouldn't. Most salons will refuse the service.
ew that's nasty. but you can definately get a fungus from a pedicure!
get the fungus taken care of before you show off your foot. and salons are suppose to clean the tools but who really knows how long they soak them or if they soak them ....think about the people coming in after you ...
